Cape Cod teams sign most of their players (like Matt Gonzalez) in the fall knowing that some of the guys won’t be available at the start of the summer because they have helped their schools into the tournament. They later add guys like A.J. Murray on a temporary/trial basis. If a temporary guy absolutely lights it up, they will keep him. Otherwise they end up releasing him. Same thing happened to Tony Plagman in 2008.
They sign them in that the contract commits them to play for that team. They don’t get paid but typically stay with a host family and often work a few hours during the day at a local business or youth baseball clinics or taking care of the host families kids, etc. I think Nomar Garciaparra was employee of the month at his Cape Cod job back in 1993.
Has Dusty Isaacs been pitching? I thought him, AJ Murray and Gonzo were playing in the Cape, but we have only seen Gonzo’s stats?
Isaacs joined Cotuit briefly in June but did not pitch. Murray was released by Chatham on 6/29.
Richard, why would someone be released?

Interesting….when you say they sign them do they get paid or anything of the sort, or do they need to pay to play there?
