Are Colby Wren and Jake Davies playing sunbelt with Earnst, Martin, and Gibson. Thought I saw them on Windward and 6-4-3 respectively. Great Work though. I love the site.

  • How badly do you have to screw up to be released by a summer league team?

    • Cape Cod is pretty cut throat. Check June 19th and you’ll see Chase had an absolute nightmarish game. He’s moved on to the NECBL and as he tweeted late Sunday night: “Won’t let it kill me because it’s going to make me stronger #Motivation”

  • what happened to davies?

  • Did Paul Kroenfeld get released from his team as well and then join the NECBL? Also how good is the NECBL compared to other leagues?

    • Kronenfeld was released before getting a chance to play in a regular season game at the Cape.

Just for reference, check out how much turnover (LINK) there has already been at Cape Cod this month.

Really hard to know how the leagues other than Cape Cod rank in any given year until after the fact. Stephen Strasburg pitched in the NECBL a couple of years ago before anyone had started to realize how good he was.

Tony Plagman went to the NECBL after he was released from his Cape Cod team so Butler and Kronenfeld are in good company. Michael Fisher and Steven Blackwood are among the other guys Tech has had play in the NECBL in the past decade. Things worked out well enough for those guys.

  • Thanks for all the info. Watching SC breeze to a 2nd straight CWS championship really makes me envious. I can just imagine myself watching the Jackets play like that in June.

  • Regarding Kyle Rose – is he interested in playing for Tech, if you know?

    • To the best of my knowledge, he didn’t even play club baseball at Tech this past year so this would seem to just be a summer thing for him. In fact, he now is off the Orlando roster…

FWIW, he’s a sidearm right-hander who doesn’t throw very hard — but he had better than a 4.0 GPA in high school (same high school as Jason Varitek, btw). You can see high school video here:

I will admit, after seeing all the sidearm guys in post-season, I’d be curious to see if he could be coached up a bit but he clearly is a kid who went to Tech for academics.

      • The sidearm (more like submariner) reliever VT had when they came to GT in 2010 and embarrassed us was pretty effective.
