Georgia Tech improved to 6-0 to start the season for the first time since opening the 1997 season with 10 straight wins.
Burks (1-0) picked up the victory in his first start of the season after holding the Terriers to two hits in four innings. Kyle Schmidt, Chris Goodman and Jeff Kindel each made scoreless outings in the Yellow Jackets' win.
Tech took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a three-run homer from Parker, his second long ball of the season. The Yellow Jackets made the score 5-0 after three innings with a RBI single from Patterson in the second and a sacrifice fly from Clifton Remole in the third.
Tech added three more runs in the fifth on RBI singles from Patterson and Matthew Boggs and a RBI groundout from Remole. A four-run seventh inning, courtesy of a two-run single from Jason Perry, a RBI single from Patterson and a RBI groundout from Matt Murton, capped the Yellow JacketsĘ scoring on the day.
Boggs and Patterson both had three hits in the game for the Yellow Jackets, while Murton and Parker each added two hits. Tech outhit Wofford, 14-6, and the Terriers were partly undone by five errors in the game.
Wofford starter Tate Osterman (1-2) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings. The Terriers scored their only run on the game on a bases loaded walk to David Dufour in the ninth inning.
Georgia Tech will return to action when the Yellow Jackets face Coastal Carolina on Friday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in the Baseball at the Beach tournament. South Carolina and Virginia Commonwealth will also participate in the round-robin event.
